Alameda Plateau Planted Roofs

Portland, Oregon | 2025

The Alameda Plateau Cohousing project thoughtfully integrates north-facing extensive eco-roofs, envisioned as a living extension of the at-grade native landscape. The planting palette draws from Pacific Northwest eco-regions and includes ferns, flowering perennials, sedums, and edible bulbs such as camas and tiger lily.

Visible from the shared courtyard commons, semi-private patios, and upper-level balconies, the eco-roofs are designed to provide year-round seasonal interest while supporting ecological performance. They assist in capturing and filtering rainwater and create layered and tangled rooftop habitats that offer birds, invertebrates, and small mammals places to forage, shelter, pollinate, and to stopover or call home.
